Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that demonstrators attacked the police with acid during the protest held in Saraçhane following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) President Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained as part of two different investigations, was transferred to Çağlayan Courthouse along with 91 suspects after completing his statement procedures at the police station.
TENSION ERUPTED IN SARAÇHANE
While İmamoğlu's procedures at the courthouse were ongoing, the CHP's call was met with police resistance against groups gathering in Saraçhane and wanting to march to Taksim. The police intervened with tear gas and plastic bullets against those wanting to march to Taksim.
ACID ATTACK ON POLICE
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that an acid was thrown at a police officer during the protest demonstration in Saraçhane. In his statement, Minister Yerlikaya said, "During the demonstrations held in Saraçhane last night, acid was thrown at one of our police officers. Those calling for action in the streets should think carefully about the consequences and legal responsibilities they are taking on. I emphasize once again: We will never allow those who threaten the peace and security of our nation, to vandalism. Our police officers are the guarantee of our country's peace and security, and they carry out their duties for this purpose."
