RTÜK member İlhan Taşcı requested an examination of the series "Under the Same Rain" broadcast on ATV. Taşcı stated that in the first two episodes of the series, derogatory and provocative expressions were used against each other based on religious identities and lifestyles, and that these scenes have the potential to increase social polarization.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) Member İlhan Taşcı applied to the RTÜK Presidency for an investigation regarding the 'provocative' expressions in the series titled 'Under the Same Rain' aired on ATV. In his application, Taşcı included a transcript of some scenes from the first and second episodes of the series, stating, "In the scene that takes place in a public transport vehicle in the first episode, it is seen that the discussion, which starts over women's clothing styles, quickly turns into mutual insults and othering through religious identities, the education system, and lifestyles."
"THE SERVING OF ROASTED PORK..."
In the second episode of the series, Taşcı noted that a discussion arose over religious sensitivities when "Roasted Pork" was served at the family dinner scene, stating, "In the scene, expressions such as 'We are all Muslims, after all, there is no place for haram food on our plates,' 'Even the Christian bride is respectful to you,' and 'You have eaten all kinds of haram until it comes to pork' were used; mutual accusations and judgmental statements based on religious beliefs and lifestyles were included. In the mentioned scene, it is observed that the parties used a language that belittles, excludes, and polarizes each other based on religious values and belief preferences; although it is presented within a dramatic narrative, it is seen that provocative and inciting content that stirs social sensitivities is heavily brought to the screen. In both episodes of the series, the effort to portray secular individuals as irreligious and against the religious is consciously and persistently reflected on the screen. The fact that provocative and inciting scenes are aired during the month of Ramadan makes it inevitable for special evaluation and investigation by the Supreme Council. When the aired episodes of the series are examined, it is assessed that they are triggering and inciting social division," he stated.
"DEGRADING AND PROVOCATIVE"
RTÜK Member İlhan Taşcı recorded the following in his application: "In the concrete case, both in the first episode and the second episode, there are mutual degrading, provocative expressions that could increase social polarization based on religious identities and lifestyles; in this respect, the broadcast content should be evaluated within the scope of the broadcasting principles regulated in Article 8 of Law No. 6112. Therefore, I request that the first and second episodes of the mentioned series, published on 09.02.2026 and 16.02.2026, be examined within the scope of the first paragraph of Article 8, subparagraphs (b) and (e) of Law No. 6112, reported by relevant experts, and the issue be brought to the agenda in the first Supreme Council meeting."
