Erdal Beşikçioğlu, the Mayor of Etimesgut Municipality, made a statement regarding the operation in which 4 people were detained. Beşikçioğlu said, "Detention procedures were carried out as part of the investigation initiated by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of Ankara West following a complaint made by our municipality."
Four suspects were detained in the operation carried out by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Etimesgut Municipality on the charge of embezzlement.
4 PEOPLE DETAINED
In a statement made by the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that "four suspects were detained within the scope of the investigation initiated for the crime of 'Embezzlement' regarding the irregularities detected in the accounts of the Etimesgut Municipality and its affiliate, Etimkent A.Ş., during the audits conducted by the Court of Accounts."
The Chief Public Prosecutor's statement is as follows:
"During the regular audits of the 2025 accounts and transactions conducted at the Etimesgut Municipality by the Court of Accounts, reports were prepared regarding the irregularities detected in the operations of the Etimesgut Municipality soup kitchen, food procurement, and distribution processes, as well as the account information of Etimkent A.Ş. Based on these reports, an investigation was initiated for the crime of embezzlement by our Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office;
Search warrants obtained from the Ankara West Criminal Court of Peace and instructions given by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office were executed on 30.03.2026, with simultaneous searches and seizures carried out at the residences and workplaces of the suspects, who are M.Ç., General Manager of Etimkent A.Ş., A.C., Director of Social Assistance Affairs of Etimesgut Municipality, S.K., the accountant of the Social Assistance Affairs Directorate of Etimesgut Municipality, and H.B., responsible personnel for the cash of Etimkent A.Ş. All suspects were captured and detained.
The investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is being carried out meticulously and in all aspects, and it is announced to the public with respect that further information will be provided regarding the progress and outcome of the investigation. 30.03.2026"
STATEMENT FROM MAYOR BEŞİKÇİOĞLU
Following the detentions, Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu made a press statement. In his statement, Beşikçioğlu used the following expressions:
"It has been announced to the public that search and detention orders have been issued regarding some of our employees working in the Social Assistance Affairs Directorate of our municipality and in ETİMKENT A.Ş., which is fully owned by our municipality, within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office based on a complaint made by our municipality to the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. This issue is related to a criminal complaint made to the prosecutor's office by the inspectors of our Municipality's Inspection Directorate and does not involve any political situation that could be perceived as an operation against our municipality. As a result of the investigation previously initiated by our municipality, one of the mentioned officials, S.K., has already been suspended from duty by our municipality, and this personnel was reported to the prosecutor's office as a complainant by our municipality and our companies on 11.09.2025. Ongoing judicial processes are also being monitored by our municipality. Detailed explanations will be transparently shared with the public by our municipality throughout the process."
