The Ministry of Trade took action after allegations that a mother and her daughter were denied entry to a fast-food chain restaurant in Istanbul. HAMBURGER RESTAURANT FINED
The Ministry announced that an administrative fine was imposed on the business for violating the prohibition of discrimination and consumer rights. In the statement, it was emphasized that inspections against such attitudes that prevent citizens from accessing services without a justified reason will continue resolutely.
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY
In a statement made from the Ministry's social media account, citing the said allegations, it was stated: "The situation described in this post is absolutely unacceptable. No child, no mother should be excluded from a place by being told 'you cannot sit here.' Such an act is not only morally unacceptable but also incompatible with commercial ethics and laws. The matter has been seriously addressed by the Ministry of Trade, and our Istanbul Provincial Trade Directorate teams conducted an inspection at the relevant restaurant on the same day. Violations of legislation were detected during the inspections, and an administrative fine was imposed on the business. Additionally, regarding the mentioned incident, the situation was documented under 'Unfair Commercial Practice' and recorded for submission to the General Directorate of Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance (Advertising Board) of our Ministry of Trade. As the Ministry of Trade, we will resolutely continue to protect the commercial rights of our citizens, establish commercial justice, and stand against such practices that hurt consciences."
