Fiorentina confirms Kouame, after feeling fever and a feeling of malaise, tested positive and went to hospital.

Africa Cup of Nations-winning forward Christian Kouame has been admitted to a hospital for malaria, his club Fiorentina confirmed on Wednesday.

"Christian Kouame took a malaria test on Wednesday morning after developing a fever and a feeling of malaise during the night between February 20th and 21st. The test came back positive," Fiorentina said in a statement.

The Italian Serie A club added that Kouame, 26, went to a hospital after taking the test.

A Fiorentina forward since 2020, Kouame made four appearances to help tournament hosts Ivory Coast win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This season Kouame scored one goal in 22 appearances for Fiorentina.

Kouame previously played for Belgium's Anderlecht and Italian clubs Genoa and Cittadella. -
