The investigation into the stabbing murder of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi in Kadıköy has led to the arrest of two suspects, in addition to two others who were found with them. One of the minors involved, whose statements have emerged in court, said, "While we were on the metrobus, B.B. asked us, 'I stabbed him, will anything happen, what should I do?' We were already in shock from the incident."
On January 24, Friday, around 08:25, an incident occurred at the historic Tuesday market in Kadıköy, where Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi (15) was stabbed five times by B. B. while shopping at the market. The other suspect, U. B., kicked Minguzzi. Minguzzi passed away in the hospital after 15 days of treatment. A lawsuit was filed against the suspect children B. B. and U. B. for 'intentional murder against a child' with a request for imprisonment of 18 to 24 years. In the expert report regarding the footage of the moments when Minguzzi was stabbed, the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office determined that M. A. D. and A. Ö., who were found to be with the detained suspects B. B. and U. B. at the scene, were captured. After their procedures at the police station, they were referred to the Anadolu Courthouse.
"I DID NOT SEE THE STABBING MOMENT BECAUSE THERE WAS A WALL IN FRONT OF ME" In the judicial interrogation, suspect A. Ö. stated, "I have a disability report. I have a report indicating that I cannot remember, write, or speak. I added this to the file at the prosecutor's office. On the day of the incident, around 6-7 in the morning, I took the 18E public bus near the 15 July bus stop. I saw B. B. on the bus. I saw him by chance. He asked me, 'Where are you going?' I told him I was going to the Kadıköy flea market to buy shoes. We have a place at the flea market, and all my cousins work here. He said, 'Come on then, let's go together,' and we got off at the Uzunçayır bus stop and walked to the market. We traveled for a total of half an hour. B. B. and I entered the market together. I know B. B. from the neighborhood. We have greeted each other 2-3 times, but there is not much familiarity. I know U. B. and M. A. D., but I am not very close to them either. While B. B. and I were walking in the market, we encountered U. B. and M. A. D. and greeted each other. At that moment, B. B. said to U. B., 'The kid bumped into me, he should apologize to me, let's talk.' U. B. replied, 'Okay, let's go.' I then said, 'We didn't come here to fight. Let everyone do their shopping.' After that, M. A. D., B. B., and U. B. walked away from me. I walked about 5 meters behind them. Suddenly, B. B. started to run after Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi and began to punch him in the back of the head. Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi was trying to push B. B. away to protect himself. The shopkeepers in the market intervened and separated them. B. B. was shouting, 'Let me go, let me go.' I do not know the person named Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi. I do not know the two children next to him either. No one helped B. B. I did not see any knife in B. B.'s hand that day. I did not see any knife with the other children either. After the punching incident, two friends took Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi away. At that stage, B. B. was being calmed down and tried to be removed by the shopkeepers. In fact, someone there said, 'Come sit, let me buy you a tea.' During this time, B. B. was telling the older brother holding him, 'Let me go, I will go.' Suddenly, B. B. started running. I did not see what M. A. D. and U. B. were doing. I did not see the stabbing moment because there was a wall in front of me. I did not see anyone kicking Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi on the ground," he said.
"I LEARNED THAT MINGUZZI WAS STABBED FROM MY FATHER" In the continuation of his interrogation, suspect A. Ö. stated, "Later, I left the market. I encountered M. A. D. and U. B. B. B. was not with them. I told these individuals that I was going home. They said, 'Okay, let's go home too.' There is a PTT at the market entrance. There is also a parking lot there. We saw that B. B. was waiting for us there. We told him we were going home. He said, 'Okay then, I will go home too.' Then the four of us went to the Uzunçayır metrobus together. I bought a bagel here. B. B. and the others had gone up as three people. I addressed the security brother, saying, 'I don't have an akbil, can I pass for one time?' He said, 'Okay, pass for one time.' No one validated my akbil. I do not accept the statement made by M. A. D. No one validated my akbil on my behalf. Meanwhile, while I was going up to the other children involved in the crime, B. B. was demonstrating the stabbing motion to the other children involved in the crime with his hand. When I arrived, they fell silent. I asked them if they wanted a bagel, but they did not want it. Later, we boarded the metrobus and got off to take the Sancaktepe metro. We all got off at the Sarıgazi metro stop. B. B. and I were going to play billiards. We separated from the others. At that moment, B. B. looked at the billiard hall. Seeing that it was closed, he returned to me. During this time, my father called me, saying, 'A child has been stabbed in Kadıköy, where are you?' I said I was getting close to home. He said, 'Come quickly.' I definitely did not see the argument in the park. I did not help anyone in their crime. I did not see a knife in B. B.'s hand. While I was running in the market, it got hot, and I took off my jacket and gave it to U. B. to put in a bag. I may have run after B. B., but I neither saw a knife in his hand nor had any knowledge of what he would do. The jacket in the white bag that U. B. had belongs to me. I did not see U. B. pointing at Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi with his hand. B. B. did not make any gestures to us with his hand. I learned that Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi was stabbed from my father's statement. I explained everything about the incident. I am innocent. I want to be released," he said.
"I REALIZED A DISPUTE WOULD OCCUR WHEN HE SAID 'IT'S NOT A BICYCLE, IT'S A SKATEBOARD'" In the judicial interrogation, suspect M. A. D. stated, "I know the children involved in the crime you asked me about. I have known A. Ö., who was also brought for arrest with me, for 1-2 years. We live in the same neighborhood. I do not have much familiarity with him. I have known the other child involved in the crime, B. B., for 3-3.5 years. I know him because he lives in the Yenidoğan neighborhood. I do not have much familiarity with him either. He is already younger than me. The other child involved in the crime, U. B., I have known for 4-5 months. Since some time has passed since the incident, I do not remember everything in detail. However, on the day of the incident, around 06:00, I called U. B. through the application called Instagram and asked if we should go to the flea market in Kadıköy. He said, 'Let's go.' We both had the idea of buying sports shoes. We met, took the bus. U. B. and I got off the bus near Akasya AVM around 07:45, close to the flea market. I definitely did not tell B. B. or A. Ö. that I was going to the flea market that day. I do not know if U. B. told the other children involved in the crime about this situation. U. B. and the other children involved in the crime know each other. So everyone in the group knows each other. Initially, we wandered a bit in the flea market with U. B. We were hungry. We bought and ate a sandwich. Later, while we were sitting next to the booth, B. B. and A. Ö. happened to pass by us. We saw them. They did not see us.
They were looking at the stalls. About 5 minutes later, while wandering around the market, we encountered B. B. and A. Ö. The place where I was going to buy shoes had not opened yet. Therefore, the four of us went to the park above the flea market. We waited for a while. While we were sitting in the park, a deceased person I did not know before, Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, and two other people I also did not know passed by us. B. B. argued with Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi. I don't remember exactly what they talked about. There was no swearing or threats. I, A. Ö., and U. B. listened to the discussion. Since there was nothing to escalate, the individuals moved away from there. The deceased Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi and the two people with him went down the stairs towards the market. B. B. did not say anything to us about the children. He did not say he would do this or that to the children. We thought the place where I would buy shoes had opened, so we went back, but it still had not opened. We continued to wander around. There, we encountered the deceased Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi and the two people with him again. B. B. and Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi talked again. B. B. said to Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, 'What are these kids on bikes doing here at this hour?' I don't exactly remember who from the opposing group responded, but there was a reply like, 'This is not a bike, brother, it's a skateboard.' Realizing that a bit of a dispute might arise here, I held B. B. and pulled him away. I said, 'Come on, let's go, forget it.' Again, the four of us moved away from there," he said.
"I SAW HIM STAB HIS LEG 2 TIMES AND HIS CHEST 2-3 TIMES" In the continuation of the interrogation of the suspect M. A. D., he stated, "We continued to look for shoes. My purpose, like the other children involved in the crime, was to buy shoes or clothes. U. B. bought sports shoes. About 5 minutes later, while we were wandering again, we encountered Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi and his friends again. Here, I did not see B. B. say anything, but I saw B. B. punch Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi. A. Ö. and U. B. were also next to B. B. The citizens at the stall separated B. B. and Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi. In the commotion, I heard someone swear, but I don't know who it was. The market workers calmed B. B. down; he was very angry. They even said, 'Come, let us buy you a tea to calm down.' B. B. seemed to calm down, but as soon as the shopkeeper let him go, he started running. I, A. Ö., and U. B. were telling B. B. to forget it and let’s go. I never saw B. B. take a knife from the stall. I was never aware of the knife. A little ahead of us, I saw B. B. stab Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi's leg 2 times with a knife, and then I saw him stab his chest 2-3 times with a knife. His hand was in a fist position. Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi fell to the ground. At that moment, U. B. kicked Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, who was on the ground, in the head. I did not see any knife with Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi. Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi was already facing away before the incident. I was shocked by the incident. I was anxious. A. Ö. was about 5 meters behind me; he was also surprised and stunned. The camera footage clearly shows that we did not have a knife. I did not say anything encouraging to B. B. in any way. I did not show any encouraging or supportive attitude. He did not do such a thing trusting us. Because I had already told him to forget it and let’s go from there. In fact, I calmed him down. There were many market tradesmen. They could not prevent B. B. either. Later, when I and A. Ö. were leaving the market, U. B. came to us. Then, before we reached the Uzunçayır metrobus stop, B. B. came to us. However, we definitely did not communicate about meeting with him. We did not talk on the phone. B. B. came to us by circling from the back. B. B. did not have a knife with him; the camera footage shows that he threw the knife. I and A. Ö. said to B. B., 'Why did you do such a thing? It's a shame; you are a child,' referring to the children on the other side. He did not respond at all," he stated.
"ON THE METROBÜS, HE ASKED, 'I STABBED, WILL ANYTHING HAPPEN?'" The suspect M. A. D. said, "B. B. was in a normal state. I did not see any sadness or panic. He did not have such a state. At that moment, U. B. said something like, 'I kicked B. B., did you see?' So, since A. Ö. and I did not hit, U. B. was talking in a supportive manner to B. B. as if he was saying he did not hit him. We told B. B. that what he did was wrong, but he did not care much. Later, when we headed towards the metrobus, I and U. B. had our transportation cards. The other children involved in the crime did not have transportation cards. We got on the metrobus at Uzunçayır; while B. B. was on the metrobus, he asked us, 'I stabbed, will anything happen? What should I do?' We were already in shock from the incident. We all got off at Altunizade. So, we did not have a plan to get on the metrobus together. The reason we all got off at the same place was that it was closest to our homes near the metro. We took the metro to Sancaktepe and got off at the Sarıgazi stop. I went home alone. U. B. went to his home. A. Ö. and B. B. told us that they would play billiards after getting off at the Sarıgazi metro station. The day of the incident was a Friday. Everyone was at work. I did not tell anyone anything at first. The next day or on the evening of the incident, I told my mother about it. Then I learned that B. B. was caught. I did not help anyone. The incident was not planned. It is clear that I was not involved in anything. I went to buy shoes. If I need to repeat, I only went to the market in question by communicating with U. B. I was not aware of B. B. and A. Ö. I do not know the deceased person Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi beforehand. I do not know his friends either. I have no enmity or acquaintance. I want to be released. I am still affected by the incident. I do not know why these things happened to me for no reason. My only crime was being there that day," he said.
THEY WERE ARRESTED Suspects A. Ö. and M. A. D. were arrested for the crime of 'deliberately aiding in the murder of a child' after their interrogation by the court.
