The justification for the life sentence without parole given to Ahmet Fırat, who killed his wife Nuran Fırat by stabbing her in the throat during an argument in Izmir, has been announced. In the reasoned decision, it was stated that after killing Nuran with 25 knife wounds, four of which were fatal, the defendant Fırat took photos of her with his mobile phone.
On December 27, 2022, around 11:30 AM, an incident occurred at a house on 9752 Street in the Limontepe neighborhood of the Karabağlar district in İzmir. A dispute between Ahmet Fırat (44) and his wife Nuran Fırat (36) quickly escalated into a fight. Ahmet Fırat stabbed his wife in the throat. While Nuran Fırat was left bleeding, her husband fled in his car after leaving their 5-year-old child with the landlord downstairs. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the address following a neighbor's report. Medical teams determined that Nuran Fırat had lost her life. It was learned that the couple, who had two children aged 5 and 12, had their eldest child at school during the incident. Ahmet Fırat, who was caught in Urla, was arrested.
"BECAUSE SHE DID NOT TAKE CARE OF HOUSEHOLD CHORES..."
A case was opened against Ahmet Fırat at the İzmir 1st High Criminal Court for the crime of 'Intentional Murder of His Wife' with a request for aggravated life imprisonment. In the first hearing, Ahmet Fırat stated that his wife did not take care of household chores, did not fulfill her duties, and took care of street cats, and that he killed her as a result of the ensuing argument. In the trial held in February, the court panel sentenced the defendant Ahmet Fırat to aggravated life imprisonment without any reductions for the crime of 'Intentional Murder of His Wife.'
FIRST HE SAID, THEN HE DID NOT REMEMBER
The reasoning for the decision given to Ahmet Fırat was announced. The decision stated that during the examination of Fırat's phone, it was determined that he had taken three photos of Nuran Fırat lying on the ground with her throat cut, covered in blood, and motionless from different angles after killing her. It was noted that in his statements to the law enforcement, Fırat initially claimed that Nuran had attacked him with a knife, that his eyes were closed during this time, and when he opened them, he saw blood coming from his wife's throat, and that he filmed and took photos of his wife lying motionless on the ground with his own phone, leaving the knife on the kitchen table. However, it was stated that when this matter was asked during the trial, the defendant Fırat said he did not remember.
25 STAB WOUNDS, 4 OF WHICH WERE LETHAL
It was emphasized that Ahmet Fırat took photos of Nuran from three different points after killing her, left their young daughter with a neighbor after the incident, and that the little girl told the neighbors, "My dad is stabbing my mom." The decision stated that the defendant was not subjected to unjust provocation. The panel noted that there was a troubled marriage between Fırat and his wife, and concluded that the murder occurred suddenly as a result of mutual dialogues, indicating that the act of 'Killing with a monstrous feeling or by inflicting torture' did not occur. The decision stated that the defendant, who killed Nuran with a total of 25 stab wounds, 4 of which were lethal, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment without any reductions.
