The 266th leader of the Christian world, Pope Francis, passed away at the age of 88. The death of Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholics and the Head of State of the Vatican, has plunged the Christian world into mourning.

Following the Pope's death, a prophecy claimed to be 900 years old has resurfaced. According to the prophecy, after the death of the 112th Pope (Pope Francis), the 'city of seven hills' will be destroyed, and the end of the world will come in 2027.

THE TEXT CONTAINS 112 SHORT AND MYSTERIOUS SENTENCES

The prophecy was brought back into discussion when the Pope fell seriously ill in March. This book, which addresses the period after the Pope's death, has once again drawn all attention. The 900-year-old prophecy is attributed to the Irish Archbishop St. Malachy, who is said to have seen a vision during his visit to Rome in 1139. This text, titled 'The Prophecy of the Popes,' contains 112 short and mysterious sentences. It is claimed that this book was found in the Vatican's secret archives in 1595.

Before delving into the prophecies of the book, it should be noted that there are those who believe all of this is mere speculation and that what is written is nothing but lies. According to the date it was written, this prophecy book describes the names and characteristics of the future 109 popes, predicting what will happen in the coming years. Starting with Celestine II in 1143, the book ends with 'Roman Peter' in 2027. It appears that three of the nine candidates considered to succeed Pope Francis are named Peter. It is said that the last Pope will preside over the Church during a time of great turmoil. This prophecy is conveyed in the book with the following sentences: 'In the last persecution of the Holy Roman Church, Peter of Rome will reign, feeding his flock amidst many tribulations, then the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the terrible Judge will judge the people. The end.'

THE TITLE OF THE SEVEN-HILLED CITY IS NOT EXCLUSIVE TO ISTANBUL

The phrase 'the city of seven hills will be destroyed' mentioned in the 900-year-old prophecy may actually refer to multiple cities. The city with historical significance is Istanbul. Istanbul has seven hills: 'Sarayburnu, Çemberlitaş, Beyazıt, Fatih, Yavuzselim, Edirnekapı, and Kocamustafapaşa.' However, the title of the seven-hilled city is not exclusive to Istanbul. There are many different cities around the world, especially in Europe, that are referred to as seven-hilled cities. Some of these cities include: Athens, Rome, Nevada, Mumbai, Tehran, Amman, Mecca, Prague, Barcelona, and Madrid.

SOME ACADEMICS BELIEVE IT IS "FABRICATION"

In the final section of the prophecy, not only the seven-hilled city is mentioned. Many Christians believe that the 'Second Coming of Christ,' the moment when Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead, will occur in 2027. Therefore, it is believed that the Day of Judgment will also come in 2027! These claims are said to have been written after a vision that Malachy saw during his visit to Rome. However, some academics believe that these texts are 'fabrications.' It is claimed that the detailed information about the popes was written by someone else. Indeed, US Catholic magazine states that the papal election of 1590 was written to influence in favor of Cardinal Girolamo Simoncelli. It appears that the current prophecies contain references pointing to Simoncelli for the new pope of that time.
