After the severe downpour in Istanbul that killed 2 people and flooded numerous homes and businesses, the Golden Horn turned brown. The color change, believed to have been caused by the mud, soil, and sediment carried by floodwaters, was captured on camera. As traces of the flood continue across the city, the images that emerged in the Golden Horn once again revealed the impact of the rainfall.
Heavy downpours affecting Istanbul caused floods and inundations in many parts of the city. Streets turned into lakes, vehicles were swept away by floodwaters, and many homes and businesses were flooded.
After the rainfall that adversely affected life in the city, this time a striking change occurred in the Golden Horn. The water of the Golden Horn, normally seen in different tones, turned brown after the downpour.
CHANGE IN THE GOLDEN HORN CAPTURED ON CAMERA
The color change that occurred in the Golden Horn after the heavy rains was captured by cameras. The fact that a large part of the water appeared brown drew attention.
It is assessed that mud, soil, and sediments carried from streams and rainwater channels along with the downpour were effective in the change in the water's color.
TRACES OF THE FLOOD REMAIN
The downpour that affected Istanbul and killed two people caused major damage, especially in Sarıyer, Eyüpsultan, and Kağıthane.
In Ayazağa, vehicles swept by floodwaters piled up on top of each other, while many citizens were stranded in Kemerburgaz. As a result of the Kağıthane Stream overflowing, the historic Sadabad Mosque was also flooded.
As traces of the damage continued across the city after the disaster, the brown appearance that emerged in the Golden Horn also revealed the impact of the heavy rains on the environment.
