With the decision published in the Official Gazette, the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) rates on mobile phones have been restructured. With the new rates, a price reduction of up to 1,000 TL is expected, especially for mid-range models. Following the regulation, price decreases are anticipated for certain models of brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, and Vivo; the discounts are expected to reflect on the prices starting from November.
With the Presidential Decision published in the Official Gazette, the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) rates on mobile phones and tobacco products have been restructured. With this regulation, discounts of up to 1,000 TL are expected on some mobile phone models.
NEW SCT RATES
According to the decision, the new rates to be applied based on the tax base for mobile phones are as follows:
- For devices priced at 4,500 TL and below, the SCT rate is 25%
- For devices priced between 4,500 TL and 9,000 TL, the rate is 40%
- For devices priced above 9,000 TL, the rate is 50%
With this change, some models that were previously taxed at a rate of 50% will now be subject to a rate of 40%.
MID-RANGE PHONES WILL BECOME CHEAPER
It has been stated that the regulation particularly covers entry-level and mid-range smartphone models. According to experts, this change means a discount of approximately 1,000 TL on the most preferred models by consumers.
