In the India-Pakistan tension, Turkey's stance in favor of Pakistan has also affected the tourism sector. Due to the influence of Indians boycotting Turkey, a significant decrease in the number of visitors was recorded in July. The number of Indian tourists visiting Turkey in July 2025 decreased by 43.74% compared to the previous year.
The support of Turkey for Pakistan in the tension with India has drawn reactions from the Indians. In addition to anti-Turkey campaigns, calls for a boycott of Turkish Airlines have seriously negatively affected the tourism sector.
TOURIST NUMBERS DECREASED BY 43.74%
According to official data, the number of Indian tourists coming to Turkey in July 2025 decreased by 43.74% compared to the previous year. In 2023, 24,704 Indians (including transit passengers) visited Turkey, and this number rose to 28,875 in 2024. However, in July 2025, the number of visitors dropped to 16,244.
BOYCOTT CALLS WERE EFFECTIVE
It is considered that the anti-Turkey social media campaigns in the Indian public, as well as the calls for a boycott of Turkish Airlines, were effective in the boycott.
AZERBAIJAN ALSO JOINED THE BOYCOTT
The reaction of the Indians was not limited to Turkey. Azerbaijan was similarly boycotted. In June 2024, 28,315 Indians visited Azerbaijan, while this figure dropped to 9,934 in June 2025.
