The leader of the Future Party, Ahmet Davutoğlu, has backtracked on his statement "Do not drag Turkey into chaos" regarding the protests that followed the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu stated, "Do not drag Turkey into chaos," following the reactions to his words, and added, "In the face of these developments, the right of all segments of society and the opposition to hold meetings and demonstrations is a constitutional right and cannot be prevented."

After the protests that erupted following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu took a step back.

"IT IS A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT AND CANNOT BE PREVENTED"

In a video he shared on his social media account, Davutoğlu said, "As a scholar, a politician, and a statesman, I speak clearly and openly. Now, I am clearly stating my position regarding the latest developments. Corruption, regardless of who commits it, is both immoral and a crime. If the government is sincere in its fight against corruption, it must first confront the corruption occurring on its own front and initiate investigations there," he expressed.

Davutoğlu, who stated, "The recent operations are a political engineering effort in terms of content and timing, and we are clearly against this," added, "In the face of these developments, the right of all segments of society and the opposition to hold meetings and demonstrations is a constitutional right and cannot be prevented."

"CAREFUL OF ACTIONS THAT WILL DRAG THE COUNTRY INTO CHAOS"

Davutoğlu also stated: "Everyone participating in these meetings and demonstrations has the responsibility to be very careful against possible provocations and actions that will drag the country into chaos. These four messages are consistent within themselves. I express this by addressing all my citizens. We have always stood by the right, the law, justice, and freedoms. Never give credence to such distortions."

WHAT DID HE SAY?

Speaking about the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Davutoğlu warned opposition parties. He said, "Do not drag Turkey into chaos. No one should resort to anything outside of democratic, legitimate means." He added, "Turkey's streets are filled with activity, and there is an expectation of chaos. I would also like to address the representatives of the opposition from here. Fulfill your democratic demands, but never drag Turkey into chaos. No one should resort to anything outside of democratic, legitimate means. Every reaction can be shown, but it must always be shown through democratic means. The stock market almost collapsed in one day. We lost trillions because of this incident," he stated.
