The Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk and Devrim Demir, who were dismissed by the Ministry of Interior, have been found to have hired 448 people unlawfully without any announcement since they took office. THEY HAVE HIRED 448 PEOPLE UNLAWFULLYAhmet Türk and Devrim Demir, who were elected as co-mayors of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality as candidates of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in the March 31 Local Government General Elections, continue to be in the spotlight with their controversial practices during their 7-month tenure. Allegations suggest that during this period, they unlawfully hired 448 people to Mardin Kent A.Ş., a municipal company, without any announcement. 300 MILLION TL ADDITIONAL BURDENIt is stated that these hires made by Türk and Demir have added an annual burden of 300 million TL to the budget of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality. This corresponds to 25% of the municipality's current personnel count. In addition to these hires within the municipality, it has been claimed that some relatives of martyrs and personnel were dismissed on the grounds that their services were not needed. This situation has led to criticisms that the municipality acted against the principles of merit and equality. Especially, the dismissal of relatives of martyrs has drawn significant public backlash. ACCUSATION AGAINST AHMET TÜRK: "IT LED TO A DETERIORATION IN THE MUNICIPALITY'S FINANCIAL STRUCTURE"Ahmet Türk and Devrim Demir, who accused the trustee administration of financial irregularities when they took office, are alleged to have caused a significant deterioration in the municipality's financial structure between April 1 and November 4, 2024. The practices of the co-mayors from the DEM Party, who frequently advocate for workers' rights, have also drawn attention for not adhering to these values during their tenure. Dismissed Ahmet Türk and Devrim Demir are accused not only of financial irregularities but also of violating the principles of transparency and justice. It is emphasized that public resources should be used efficiently and personnel should be hired fairly based on merit, while the irregularities during this process have imposed a significant financial cost on both the municipality and the people of Mardin.
