AK Party council members attacked the citizens.

The CHP Başakşehir District Presidency announced via a video shared on their social media account that AK Party Deputy Mayor Ahmet Melik and council members attacked citizens of Şahintepe during a meeting where a proposal granting authority for land purchases and sales was to be discussed. The CHP received a wave of reactions against the attack.

The meeting discussing the proposal granting the authority to buy and sell land to the Başakşehir Municipality was held in a way open to public participation. The CHP Başakşehir District Presidency announced via a video on their social media account that AK Party Deputy Mayor Ahmet Melik and council members attacked citizens who reacted to the decision at the end of the session.

"AK PARTY COUNCIL MEMBERS ATTACKED CITIZENS"

In the video shared, it was stated, "During the meeting where the proposal granting the authority to buy and sell land to the Başakşehir Municipality was to be discussed, AKP Deputy Mayor Ahmet Melik and AKP council members attacked the citizens of Şahintepe."

"WE CONDEMN THE ATTACK"

CHP Istanbul Provincial Vice President and Local Governments Coordinator Hasan Tozkoparan also reacted to the attack on his social media account. Condemning the attack, Tozkoparan stated, "The attack by AKP Deputy Mayor Ahmet Melik and AKP council members on the citizens of Şahintepe in Başakşehir Municipality is unacceptable. The violent response to citizens defending their democratic rights is contrary to the rule of law and human rights. As the CHP Council Group, we strongly condemn such attacks and closely monitor the process to ensure that those responsible are held accountable."
