EXPECTED TEMPERATURES IN 5 METROPOLISES

According to the shared information, it is expected that the temperature in Istanbul will be around 9 degrees today. YELLOW CODE SNOW WARNING FOR 9 PROVINCES

According to MGM's forecasts; while partly and very cloudy weather is expected across the country, it is assessed that in some regions, precipitation will be seen as mixed rain on the coasts and snow in the inland areas. Within the scope of the shared warnings, a yellow code snow warning has been issued for Bitlis, Diyarbakır, Erzurum, Hakkari, Mardin, Muş, Siirt, Batman, and Şırnak.

THE METEOROLOGIST ALSO POINTED OUT THAT DATE

Okan Bozyurt, a faculty member at Afyon Kocatepe University, stated in his assessment on TRT News screens that a colder air mass will come from the Black Sea after January 18, especially drawing attention to the dates of January 19, 20, and 21. Bozyurt said, "Especially on January 19, 20, and 21, nighttime temperatures in the inland areas will drop to -10 degrees and below, and therefore I expect strong frost in the northern, inland, and eastern regions of the country."

"THERE IS A STRONG SYSTEM ON JANUARY 25"

In his assessment regarding the period after January 25, Bozyurt expressed that there is a possibility of a strong system coming from the Balkans and the Black Sea, but it is too early to speak definitively at this stage, stating, "I expect a strong system from the Balkans and the Black Sea after January 25, but right now this is not very clear. Therefore, effective snowfall may be seen in the northern, inland, and eastern regions of the country by the end of January."

IT WILL BE THE COLDEST WINTER IN THE LAST 9 YEARS

Bozyurt noted that the winter season has not been significantly harsh since 2016 and stated that he foresees a tougher scenario for this year. Reminding his previous assessment, "I expect the coldest winter in the last 9 years," Bozyurt expressed that the latest developments also support this expectation. He mentioned that temperatures in February could drop below seasonal norms, and harsh winter conditions could continue until the first half of March.
