As protests continue in Iran, many people have lost their lives, and tensions between the U.S. administration, which supports the protesters, and Tehran have reached a peak. The Iranian government, frequently threatened by Trump, has stated that it will retaliate. While tensions rise in the region, Turkey has intervened. Turkey is in contact with Iranian officials while also engaging with U.S. authorities.
Protests initiated by merchants in the Grand Bazaar of Tehran on December 28, 2025, due to the high depreciation of the local currency against foreign currencies and economic problems, spread to many cities across the country.
DEATH TOLL 2,500
The Iran Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported today that the number of people who have died due to the protests has risen to a total of 2,550, including 147 security personnel. There has not yet been an official statement from Iranian authorities regarding those who have died or been injured in the protests.
TRUMP SUPPORTS PROTESTERS
U.S. President Donald Trump has been making striking statements regarding the protests in Iran. In his latest statement, Trump said, "Iranian patriots, continue the protest. Take over your institutions. Record the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a heavy price for this."
IRAN THREATENS TO STRIKE U.S. BASES
Iran is responding harshly to these statements from the U.S. President. The Iranian government, stating "We will not bow to threats," threatens to strike U.S. bases.
TURKEY INTERVENES
While these events are unfolding between the two countries, Turkey has intervened. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi for the second time in 24 hours.
According to information obtained from sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Fidan emphasized the need for negotiations to alleviate the existing regional tensions during the conversation.
On the other hand, diplomatic sources reported that Turkey is also conducting talks with the U.S. in addition to Iran.
