Following claims of a riot at Konya E-Type Closed Penal Institution, relatives of inmates gathered in front of the prison during the night. The Provincial Police Department announced that these reports were unfounded, that no situation like a riot occurred in the prison, and that necessary investigations were being carried out against disinformation. Relatives of inmates continued to wait until morning.
In a statement from the Konya Provincial Police Department, regarding the claims that a riot broke out at the E-Type Closed Penitentiary Institution, it was said, "There is no such situation as a riot in Konya Prison, and such news is not accurate."
RELATIVES OF INMATES GATHERED IN FRONT OF THE PRISON
Relatives of inmates at the Konya E-Type Closed Penitentiary Institution gathered in front of the prison at midnight, claiming that a riot had broken out. As the crowd grew, numerous police teams were dispatched to the area.
Provincial Police Chief Necmettin Koç announced to the relatives of the inmates via megaphone that he had checked the prison and that there was no riot or problem inside. However, relatives of the inmates continued to wait in front of the prison until the morning hours.
POLICE DEPARTMENT DENIES THE CLAIMS
A statement was made by the Provincial Police Department regarding the issue. The statement said, "It has been observed that some press and media outlets and websites dated 10.08.2026 have reported news titled 'Riot Erupted in Konya Prison.' These news reports are baseless, and since there is no such situation as a riot in Konya Prison, such news is not accurate. The relevant authorized state institutions are conducting the necessary investigation and follow-up against such disinformation."
