After the stabbing murder of 17-year-old Atlas Çağlayan in Güngören, the investigation into 9 suspects who threatened his family has been completed. The indictment includes various charges, and 6 of them are currently in custody.
In a statement made by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that an indictment was prepared addressed to the Bakırköy Criminal Court and the Bakırköy Juvenile Court regarding the sending of threatening messages to the family of Atlas Çağlayan, who was killed in Güngören on January 14, the sharing of posts related to the incident on social media accounts, and the opening of a social media account in the name of Atlas Çağlayan to make posts.
The statement indicated that in the indictment prepared for 9 suspects, 6 of whom are detained, 2 suspects are charged with "threatening by putting the person in a state of being unrecognizable" and "threatening with multiple people," 1 suspect is charged with "publicly inciting hatred and enmity," "publicly disseminating misleading information," 1 suspect is charged with "publicly inciting to commit a crime," 1 suspect is charged with "threatening with the aim of creating fear and panic among the public," 1 suspect is charged with "insulting the memory of a person" and "illegally obtaining or disseminating personal data," and 2 suspects and 1 child who was led into crime are also charged with "threatening with multiple people," "threatening by using the names of criminal organizations," and "threatening by putting the person in a state of being unrecognizable."
WHAT HAPPENED?
On January 14, a fight broke out between Atlas Çağlayan and E.Ç. (15), who did not know each other beforehand, due to a dispute over "you looked sideways" in front of a baklava shop in the Mehmet Nesih Özmen neighborhood of Güngören. During the fight, E.Ç. stabbed Atlas Çağlayan with a knife referred to as a "switchblade," and Çağlayan, who was taken to Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital, could not be saved.
E.Ç., who is under 18 and was caught by the police with the knife used in the incident, was arrested at the courthouse he was brought to. The investigation initiated by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the suspect E.Ç. for the murder of Çağlayan is ongoing. Meanwhile, some suspects have been arrested as part of investigations into individuals who threatened Çağlayan's family with provocative posts made on social media.
