Sports commentator Erman Toroğlu is being investigated for "Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information" due to statements he made during a television program. Toroğlu stated, "Dursun Özbek told the federation president in a private meeting, 'We must become champions this year, the situation is very bad, help us out.'"
Sports commentator and former football referee Erman Toroğlu was subjected to an ex officio investigation on the charge of 'Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information' regarding his statements made during a television program he attended on February 8, 2026.
After the completion of his statement procedures, Toroğlu was referred to the duty magistrate court with a request for judicial control.
STATEMENT FROM THE PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
The statement from the Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows; "An ex officio investigation has been initiated by our Public Prosecutor's Office regarding sports commentator and former football referee Erman TOROĞLU, due to his statements made during a program he attended on a national television channel on 08.02.2026, concerning Turkish football, in accordance with Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code regarding the charge of 'Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information.'
In the statement taken from the aforementioned person as a suspect, it was determined that he claimed not to have direct knowledge about the matters he alleged in the program he attended, that he obtained information based on hearsay, and that he did not know whether these allegations were true or not. After the completion of the statement procedures, suspect Erman Toroğlu was referred to the duty magistrate court with a request for judicial control. Respectfully announced to the public.
