In Afyonkarahisar, the life of Mehmet Gündoğan, a father of two, and Selinay Yüksekbaş, a mother of two from Adana, was claimed by a yellow serum, which has now taken another life in Istanbul. Harun Bayramoğlu, who was receiving 'yellow serum' treatment at home in Ataşehir, fell ill and was taken to the hospital. Despite all the interventions made there, Bayramoğlu could not be saved.
After the death of two people in Afyonkarahisar and Adana, the yellow serum, which has become the number one topic on the agenda, has claimed another life. The application performed by individuals who come to the house for 2,000 TL is not recommended by experts.
In an incident that occurred in İçerenköy neighborhood at midnight, 64-year-old Harun Bayramoğlu, who was receiving 'yellow serum' treatment at home, fell ill after a while. Health teams who arrived at the house upon notification provided first aid and then took Bayramoğlu to Fatih Sultan Mehmet Hospital.
DESPITE ALL INTERVENTIONS, HE COULD NOT BE SAVED
Bayramoğlu, who was treated here, passed away despite all interventions. His body, which was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institution to determine the exact cause of death, was delivered to his relatives yesterday. While the police launched an investigation into the incident, Harun Bayramoğlu's funeral was buried in Pendik Ballıca Village Cemetery after the funeral prayer held at Erenköy Sahrayı Cedit Mosque.
EXPERTS WARN AGAINST YELLOW SERUM
On the other hand, Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Önder Özüm Polat, who mentioned the treatment known as 'yellow serum' among the public, stated, "The danger of yellow serum treatment is once again on the agenda. The serum, which takes on a yellow color due to the B vitamin it contains, was developed for use in alcohol coma. It is absolutely wrong to use such treatments without a doctor's advice."
Specialist Dr. Önder Özüm Polat informed about the treatment known as "yellow serum," which has seen an increase in unconscious application examples recently. Dr. Polat stated, "The danger of yellow serum treatment is once again on the agenda. The serum, which takes on a yellow color due to the B vitamin it contains, was developed for use in alcohol coma. It is absolutely wrong to use such treatments without a doctor's advice," he said.
"THERE IS NO PROVEN TREATMENT"
Specialist Dr. Polat noted that using these intravenous serum medications without a doctor's advice could lead to serious side effects. "Especially in those with allergic conditions, these medications can cause side effects; therefore, they should definitely not be used without a doctor's advice due to problems such as sudden cardiac arrest. Additionally, oral flu medications should also not be used without a doctor's advice. Among these, there may be situations where pseudoephedrine, which is particularly problematic for patients with hypertension and heart disease, should be avoided. We need to be aware that even if someone has no previous allergies, a medication can suddenly cause an allergic reaction. Therefore, we absolutely do not recommend administering this serum outside of a doctor's advice or in a place that is not a healthcare institution," he stated.
"MORE DANGEROUS IN CHILDREN"
Specialist Dr. Polat emphasized that allergic reactions could occur due to serum use, stating, "If a person has an allergic condition, symptoms such as itching, rash, swelling in the throat, and shortness of breath may occur when allergic reactions are present. These symptoms can occur not only due to serum administration but also when any foreign substance enters the body and an allergic condition develops. If patients encounter such a situation, they should seek medical assistance for immediate intervention. These types of serums should not be used without a doctor's advice. Unconsciously used serums can be more dangerous for children than for adults," he expressed.
