While a ceasefire was declared between Iran and the USA, tensions escalated on the other side of the world. North Korea reportedly launched an "unidentified rocket" into the East Sea (Sea of Japan).
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea launched an unidentified rocket into the East Sea in the morning hours.
It was reported that North Korea also launched an unidentified rocket from the Pyongyang region yesterday, and the launch, which appeared to be unsuccessful, resulted in the rocket going missing.
The timing of the launches drew attention as they came after heightened tensions between the two countries earlier this year due to the flying of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across the border.
WHAT HAPPENED?
North Korea accused South Korea of violating its airspace due to a UAV that fell within its borders on January 10.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung ordered an investigation into the examination of the UAV that fell in North Korea and expressed his regret over the incident. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un also announced that he appreciated this statement from South Korea.
In South Korea, the prosecution initiated proceedings against three individuals for allegedly flying UAVs to North Korea.
