TEMPORARY CEASEFIRE BETWEEN THE USA AND IRAN, INCLUDING ISRAEL
After the attacks initiated by the USA and Israel against Iran on February 28, which turned into a war with Iran's retaliations and attacks on some regional countries, US President Donald Trump announced on April 8 around 01:30 that he accepted the ceasefire. Trump stated that they accepted a two-week ceasefire "on the condition of the opening of the Strait of Hormuz," and that they received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he expressed was a viable basis for negotiation.
The Iranian National Security High Council, which stated that "Iran has achieved its objectives in the war," also reported that the final negotiations are aimed to be concluded in Islamabad within a maximum of 15 days.
The Iranian state media announced the 10-point conditions of the ceasefire that took place under Pakistan's mediation:
- The USA must provide a principle guarantee of non-aggression.
- Passage through the Strait of Hormuz must be conducted in a controlled manner in coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces.
- Acceptance of uranium enrichment.
- All sanctions against Iran must be lifted.
- Primary sanctions against Iran must be lifted.
- Termination of UN Security Council resolutions.
- Termination of International Atomic Energy Agency decisions.
- Full compensation for damages caused to Iran according to calculations and the release of all frozen Iranian assets.
- Withdrawal of US military forces from all bases and deployment points in the region.
- End of the war against allied groups on all fronts, including Lebanon.
ISRAEL CONTINUES TO ATTACK LEBANON
Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt made intense efforts for the continuation and resolution of the message exchange between the USA and Iran. The Israeli administration, which announced its support for the temporary ceasefire, continues its attacks on Lebanon, arguing that the issue of Lebanon is not included in the agreement.
THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ IS OPENED
Following the temporary ceasefire established with the USA and Israel, Iran opened the Strait of Hormuz to passage. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a written statement, thanked Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Pakistan's Chief of General Staff Marshal Asim Munir for their diplomatic efforts in the negotiations between the USA and Iran, stating, "If the attacks against Iran are stopped, our strong Armed Forces will end their defensive operations. During the two-week period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible in coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces and with technical restrictions in mind."
