FLED TO RUSSIA
After the opposition took control of the capital Damascus, the 61-year-old Ba'ath regime was overthrown, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled the country and sought refuge in Russia.
REGIME INTELLIGENCE SHARED CRITICAL INFORMATION
What Assad took with him made headlines around the world. Khalid Beyye from regime intelligence, who stated that Assad smuggled 135 billion dollars, said, "There was a very big reckoning before the last collapse. A major struggle occurred between pro-Russian commanders and the Iranian-backed command hierarchy."
"A FIGHT BROKE OUT AMONG COMMANDERS"
The first fight occurred between Aleppo Commander General Muhammad Safadli and Russia's loyal general Suheil Hasan. The flow of information between Military Intelligence and the army stopped. The defeat that began on the day Aleppo fell brought the opposition to Damascus," he said. Beyye also noted that 273 high-ranking commanders from the command hierarchy were executed by the regime during the process.
