A ceremony was held at the Provincial Police Department for police officers İlker Pehlivan (47), Turgut Külünk (50), and Yasin Koçyiğit (49), who were martyred due to the fire opened by terrorists during an operation against the ISIS terrorist organization in Yalova. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated, "With God's permission, we will proceed with determined and confident steps in the fight against terrorism."
During the operation against ISIS, which took place yesterday around 02:00 on Seher Street in İsmet Paşa Neighborhood, three police officers were martyred and eight police officers along with one guard were injured due to gunfire from a house. While five women and six children at the address were evacuated safely, six terrorists were neutralized in the ensuing clash. A ceremony was held at the Provincial Police Department for the martyred police officers İlker Pehlivan, Turgut Külünk, and Yasin Koçyiğit.
"THERE WAS PRAYER IN EVERY STEP THEY TOOK" Speaking at the ceremony, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said, "We are together to share our pain by standing side by side as a nation. We bid farewell to our three heroic police officers, İlker Pehlivan, Turgut Külünk, and Yasin Koçyiğit, who joined the caravan of martyrs like many brave souls who sacrificed their lives for our homeland to endure. Those heroes walked towards martyrdom with unwavering loyalty against the dirtiest face of terrorism for the peace and security of our nation without a moment's hesitation in the darkness of the night. İlker Pehlivan, Turgut Külünk, and Yasin Koçyiğit all served with the dignity of standing tall against the criminal and the oppressor. There was prayer in every step they took. There was love for the homeland in every breath they took. They were the soldiers of the martyrdom hearth, willing to die for the beloved crescent. That martyrdom hearth is the bosom of our sacred nation. In that bosom, there is faith, courage, and independence. Our heroic martyrs, you did not leave the hill of martyrs empty. You became the wind for our glorious flag. You became a shield for our homeland. You are inscribed as honor and glory in the destiny of our noble nation. We are grateful to you. May God be pleased with you."
"YOU HAVE TURNED THEIR TRAPS BACK ON THEM" Addressing the police organization, Yerlikaya said, "My heroic police, you stood tall with patience, determination, and resilience against the treacherous terrorists who use women and children as shields, alongside your comrades in arms whom we bid farewell today. You turned the traps set for our nation back on those who ambush us. Your nobility and heroism are not only hidden in the courage you carry in your hearts; they are also found in your conscience, your compassion, and your human dignity. May God be pleased with all of you. Remember; every moment you wear your uniform, the prayers rising from every home with smoke in our most remote village are for you."
"THIS IS A PAIN THAT SPREADS TO THE HEARTS OF 86 MILLION" Interior Minister Yerlikaya stated that the pain of the martyr families is felt in the hearts of all of Turkey, saying, "Dear families of our martyrs, there is a deep pain in your hearts. You are experiencing the great sorrow of losing your child, whom you protected from your eyes, your father, whom you waited for, and your spouse, whom you leaned on in your hardest days. No words can express this pain. However, know this; you are never alone. This pain starts in your home but spreads to the hearts of 86 million. Today, we are all in the same prayer for our martyrs. We are all under the same banner, sharing the same sorrow. In our belief, martyrdom is one of the highest ranks. Our exalted book, the Quran, states; 'Do not say of those who are killed in the way of Allah, "They are dead." Rather, they are alive.' This good news, this consolation, this truth quenches our hearts. Martyrs are not beneath the ground; they are alive in the horizon of mercy. Martyrdom, the highest rank after prophethood, is our claim, our resilience, and the greatest support of our love for freedom on this sacred homeland."
"OUR PAIN IS GREAT, BUT OUR DETERMINATION IS ALSO GREAT" Minister Yerlikaya, delivering a message of determination in the fight against terrorism, said: "Today, our pain is very great, but our determination is also very great. It is our duty to keep the memory of our martyrs alive and to protect this homeland they entrusted to us. This debt is paid not with words, but with perseverance. This debt is paid by not taking a step back, by enlarging the struggle with loyalty and determination. Just as we have not given opportunities to those who try to subdue this homeland with terrorism until today, we will never give them opportunities in the future. With God's permission, we will proceed with determined and confident steps in the fight against terrorism. We will continue without stopping, with the support and prayers of our noble nation, alongside our heroic Mehmetçik, heroic police, heroic gendarmerie, heroic coast guard, and heroic village guards. We will take care of the trust of our martyrs, whom we witnessed their martyrdom today, without falling into the slightest complacency. Those who lay eyes on even a pebble of this country, those who threaten our brotherhood, unity, and togetherness, those who try to exploit our faith, and those who attack our values will only see the power of our state and the unity of our nation in front of them."
THEY WILL BE BURIED IN DÜZCE, ANKARA, AND YALOVA After the ceremony, the funeral of martyr police officer Turgut Külünk, who was a father of one child, was sent to Akçakoca district of Düzce for burial, while the funeral of Yasin Koçyiğit, a father of three children, was sent to Şereflikoçhisar district of Ankara. İlker Pehlivan, a father of three children, who is registered in the population of Tozlu village in Kadirli district of Osmaniye and whose parents are reported to be deceased, will be buried in Yalova at the request of his wife.
