In the corruption investigation involving 47 individuals for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), businessman Aziz İhsan Aktaş, who was arrested on charges of being the leader of a criminal organization and claimed to have bribed many members of the CHP, was released after benefiting from the effective remorse provision. WHAT HAPPENED?



Aktaş, who gave his first effective remorse statement on April 30, 2025, later stated, "I have things I want to add to my statement," and provided his second statement on May 11, 2025.



Due to the two effective remorse statements Aktaş gave to be released from prison, the mayors of Gaziosmanpaşa, Avcılar, Ceyhan, and Seyhan, as well as the Deputy Secretary General of İBB and the General Manager of İsfalt, were taken into custody and arrested.



In his statement, Aktaş claimed that he gave money to the mayors of the municipalities from which he received tenders and that he was forced to provide vehicles for the candidates' election campaigns in the 2024 local elections.
