Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, the wife of Ekrem İmamoğlu, reacted to the words of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, who said, "There is no difference between going to Silivri and going to İmralı," stating, "After all the slanders we have experienced, this is very heavy for me and my family. This is just too much."
The wife of detained Ekrem İmamoğlu, Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, reacted to Devlet Bahçeli's statement, "There is no difference between going to Silivri and going to İmralı."
The words of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, who recently stated, "There is no difference between going to Silivri and going to İmralı," sparked controversy.
STRONG REACTION FROM DILEK İMAMOĞLU
The reaction to these words came from Dilek İmamoğlu, the wife of detained Ekrem İmamoğlu. In her statement, Dilek İmamoğlu said, "Recently, a political elder of ours made a statement saying there is no difference between going to Silivri and going to İmralı. As a citizen living in this country, as Ekrem İmamoğlu's wife, I couldn't believe what I heard, I found it very hard to comprehend, and I was very saddened."
"I WATCHED WITH GREAT ASTONISHMENT"
"I was saddened not only for myself but also for my country. I read it over and over, I couldn't understand, I was shocked. I didn't want to believe these words I heard. After the unjust and unlawful process we have been experiencing for 8 months, and all the slanders we have faced, this felt very heavy for me and my family. This is already too much," said Dilek İmamoğlu, adding, "I watched with great astonishment our situation being compared to this, as Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has dedicated his years, efforts, and life struggle to this country and nation, paying the price of dedication behind bars."
"WHY HAVEN'T YOU EVER SENT A DELEGATION TO SILIVRI?"
İmamoğlu also expressed the following: "In light of these words, I would like to direct the following questions to Bahçeli with his permission. If there is no difference between going to Silivri and going to İmralı, then why have you never thought of sending a delegation with representatives from your own party to Silivri to see the injustice and unlawfulness done to my wife and hundreds of colleagues?"
Why couldn't we all show a common stance against the injustices and unlawfulness experienced here? I express these questions not as a complaint despite such a comparison, but as a sincere call for strengthening the pursuit of justice.
“OUR ONLY WISH IS FOR JUSTICE TO BE SERVED”
Your statements regarding the broadcast of the trial on TRT and the support given are very valuable and meaningful to us. Let us all together defend fair and transparent trials, and trials without detention, shoulder to shoulder.
If real peace, strong democracy, social tranquility, and a sincere atmosphere of brotherhood are desired in this country, the way to achieve that passes right through here. Our only wish is for justice to be served as soon as possible."
WHAT HAPPENED?
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, in statements made to a journalist, said, "They criticize me for defending the trip to İmralı. Open a map of Turkey in front of you. Place your finger on top of Silivri. Look, it is within the borders of the Republic of Turkey. Then place your finger on İmralı Island. That is also within the borders of the Republic of Turkey. What difference is there between going to Silivri and going to İmralı Prison? None. If you go to Silivri, you can also go to İmralı. This issue cannot be thought of independently from imperialist-Zionist aggressive policies. When terrorism is out of the agenda, Turkey will turn to its fundamental problems," he had stated.
