In the Darıca district of Kocaeli, the suspect, who claimed that he could not collect a debt, first pulled a knife on his friends who tried to intervene, and then set fire to the apartment on the ground floor of the building where 30 workers were staying. During the fire, which affected 4 workers with smoke, moments were captured on camera showing the workers trapped in the building escaping by tying sheets together and climbing down from the windows.
R.Ö., who works at a brokerage firm providing personnel for construction and transportation jobs to companies in the Darıca district of Kocaeli, had a nervous breakdown due to not being able to collect his receivables.
FIRST HE PULLED A KNIFE, THEN SET THE BUILDING ON FIRE
According to the allegation, R.Ö. came to the front of a three-story building used as a guesthouse on Atatürk Street, first pulled a knife on his friends who tried to intervene, and then set fire to the apartment on the ground floor of the building where he also stayed, fleeing the scene.
4 WORKERS WERE HOSPITALIZED
Upon notification, fire, medical, and police teams were dispatched to the address. The fire was extinguished after being brought under control by the rapid intervention of the fire brigade. Four workers affected by smoke were taken to Darıca Farabi Training and Research Hospital after the first intervention by medical teams.
WORKERS ESCAPED BY TYING SHEETS TO THE FLAMES
Moments when the workers evacuated the building on their own were recorded by the mobile phone cameras of those nearby. The footage shows some workers on the upper floors lowering sheets they tied together from the window.
POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR HIM EVERYWHERE
Meanwhile, police teams have launched an operation to capture the suspect R.Ö., who fled after the incident.
