The Minister of National Defense, Yaşar Güler, spoke at the TBMM Planning and Budget Commission about the lieutenants who were expelled after the graduation ceremony at the Army Academy on August 30. Güler said, "Our top female lieutenant comes to the microphone and says, 'Families, please leave the ceremony area.' Does she have such a right?"
Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler stated that the lieutenants were not dismissed due to their slogan "We are soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" in response to criticisms regarding the dismissal of lieutenants who drew swords during the graduation ceremony of the Army Academy on August 30, 2024, during budget discussions.
MINISTER GÜLER'S STATEMENT ON DISMISSED LIEUTENANTS
The budget of the Ministry of National Defense for the year 2026 is still being discussed in the Planning and Budget Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. During the budget discussions, Minister Güler responded to the criticisms from some CHP deputies regarding the students dismissed from the army following the investigation into the lieutenants who drew swords during the graduation ceremony of the Army Academy on August 30, 2024.
"DOES OUR LIEUTENANT HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASK FAMILIES TO LEAVE THE CEREMONY AREA?"
Stating that the relationship of the lieutenants with the army was not severed due to their slogan "We are soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" and drawing swords, Güler said, "As soon as this ceremony ends, all families enter the ceremony area to hug and kiss their children. In this situation, our first-ranked female lieutenant comes to the microphone and says, 'Families, please leave the ceremony area.' Does she have such a right?"
