BARACK Obama officially endorsed Kamala Harris' presidential campaign for the Democratic Party.

26.07.2024 14:40

Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have officially endorsed Kamala Harris' campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination. Following President Trump's labeling of Harris as a "San Francisco radical" and a "Marxist phony," the Obamas released a statement expressing their "full support" for Harris. They also shared a video of their phone call with Harris. These developments come after Joe Biden withdrew from the race on Sunday and announced his departure on Wednesday to "save democracy."

The former president, aged 62, released a statement with his wife Michelle Obama after Donald Trump referred to Harris as a "San Francisco radical" and a "Marxist fraud."

Obama posted a message stating that he and Michelle gave their "full support" to Harris after Joe Biden announced the end of his re-election campaign on Sunday.

"Earlier this week, Michelle and I called @KamalaHarris," Obama said. "We told her that we believe she will be a great President of the United States and that she has our full support."

Michelle Obama also shared a message of support, saying, "I am proud of my daughter Kamala."

The Obama couple also shared a video of the moment they called Harris to express their support.

Prior to the endorsement, Trump referred to Harris as a "San Francisco Radical" and stated that his campaign would not engage in a debate until the party's candidate was confirmed.

These developments came after Biden announced his withdrawal from the race on Sunday and stated that he was stepping aside to "save democracy."

Obama did not immediately show open support for Harris in order to ensure that Biden's Oval Office speech received the attention it deserved.
