Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler was released from Marmara Prison in Silivri this morning, following the release order issued by the Istanbul Anatolian 17th Heavy Penal Court last night. After 187 days in prison, Köseler embraced each of his relatives and friends who came to welcome him.
The Mayor of Beykoz, Alaattin Köseler, along with 12 detained individuals, was released during the third day of the hearing held by the Istanbul Anadolu 17th High Criminal Court late last night. The release order reached Köseler at the prison around 09:30 in the morning, and after a while, he regained his freedom. After 187 days, Köseler embraced his relatives and friends one by one who welcomed him in front of the prison.
HE WAS DETAINED AFTER HIS HOUSE WAS RAIDED
Köseler was detained after his house was raided at around 04:00 on February 27 as part of an investigation initiated by the Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The prosecutor's office prepared an indictment against 26 individuals with various charges, seeking prison sentences ranging from 17 years and 6 months to 67 years and 3 months for Köseler and the 25 others accompanying him.

Following Köseler's release, CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek also made a statement. Starting his statement with, "Law does not operate arbitrarily. First of all, let’s remember this," Zeybek said, "Our Mayor of Beykoz, Alaattin Köseler, who has been unlawfully deprived of his freedom since March 3, has been released. I send my best wishes. However, we emphasize once again... Comply with universal legal principles and be just. Our Mayor Alaattin must immediately return to his duties; the will of the people must be restored. Our struggle will continue until justice is served. Together with our Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, we will also reclaim our comrades who have been unjustly and unlawfully detained," he stated.
