STATEMENT FROM RTÜK

RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin made a 'call' to opposition channels that reported the footage. Şahin stated, "Broadcasts that will harm social peace and public safety will not be tolerated today, just as they were not yesterday. Necessary sanctions, including administrative fines, broadcast suspensions, and ultimately license revocations, will be applied to organizations that broadcast in this manner."

RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin's statement is as follows: "Our open call to broadcasters is that they must strictly adhere to press and broadcasting principles and the legal provisions regarding news broadcasting under all circumstances. No broadcasts that threaten public order, promote violence, exploit social sensitivities, or could provoke the masses, especially those that call the public to the streets, will be allowed under any circumstances. Broadcasting that explicitly targets law enforcement officers, administrative officials, or public officials on duty, as well as judicial officials, is a clear violation of the law and will face severe penalties."

In live broadcasts, the transmission of unverified information is an example of irresponsibility that can lead to panic and misinformation in society. It is legally mandatory for our broadcasters to adhere to the ethical rules set forth in their broadcasting framework and to maintain the boundaries between news and commentary. Broadcasts that harm social peace and public safety will not be tolerated today, just as they were not yesterday, and all necessary sanctions will be applied against organizations that broadcast in this manner, including administrative fines, suspension of broadcasts, and ultimately, revocation of licenses.

As the Supreme Board, we would like to remind all our broadcasters once again that they must act with a sense of responsibility while broadcasting, and that they should consider public interest and social peace as much as press and broadcasting freedom. We respectfully announce this to the public.
