Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi, Provincial Police Chief Kadir Yırtar, and Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Engin Avcı evaluated the security and law enforcement incidents of the past 9 months. After the meeting at the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, Governor Çiftçi held a press conference and provided information about crimes committed against individuals and property crimes. Governor Çiftçi stated that if we take a look at 10 major crimes committed against individuals in our province; I can happily express that there has been a decrease in the other 8 types of crimes, excluding insult and threat crimes. There is an increase in insult and threat crimes. But apart from that, there is a decrease in the other 8 major types of crimes. Let me give you an example. For instance, there is a 43% decrease in sexual assault crimes compared to the first 9 months of last year. There is a 40% decrease in crimes of deprivation of liberty and a 32% decrease in crimes of violation of dwelling immunity. These are matters that can be expressed with satisfaction regarding crimes committed against individuals. Again, in the 10 major types of crimes committed against individuals, I am saying this on average regarding the clarification rates of our police and gendarmerie last year. While the clarification rate last year was 98.75%, this year our clarification rates are 99.79%. In other words, compared to last year; it seems that our police and gendarmerie have clarified almost all crimes committed against individuals. This is also a matter of satisfaction for our province, he said.
"THERE HAS BEEN NO SNATCHING INCIDENT IN OUR PROVINCE THIS YEAR"
Stating that there has been a significant decrease in the other 8 of the 9 major types of crimes committed against property, except for fraud, Çiftçi said, "This year, there has been no snatching incident in our province, no crime occurred. In addition, there was no car theft. Besides, for example, motorcycle theft has recorded an 86% decrease in property crimes. Burglary from homes has decreased by 71%. I excluded fraud crimes. In the first meeting I held at the beginning of the year, I mentioned that there was a 137% increase in fraud crimes compared to last year, in our first information briefing. As of today, when we compare the first 9 months of last year with this year; this rate is again 26% higher than last year. We have not completely prevented it. They continue to deceive our citizens and trap them. When we talk about fraud, there is especially qualified fraud committed using information systems. They call our citizens, pretending to be soldiers, police, or prosecutors. They state that an operation is being conducted. They deceive and panic our citizens, directing them to the bank. They tell them to convert their gold at home and deposit it into an IBAN number.
"SOLDIERS, PROSECUTORS, AND POLICE NEVER ASK FOR MONEY FROM OUR CITIZENS"
Governor Çiftçi, who stated that he was also called in fraud committed through the cargo method, said, "They say that my cargo has arrived and that I need to update my address. I updated the address. After that, they requested an additional payment. However, I used a virtual card while making the additional payment. The limit of the virtual card was very low. They could not withdraw from there. If I had used my normal card; they could have probably withdrawn at least 100-150 thousand lira. I got rid of this situation with that virtual card application. But the best thing is to be cautious against such incidents," he said. Warning citizens against fraud, Governor Çiftçi said, "We always say this. Soldiers, police, and prosecutors never ask for money from our citizens. They do not ask them to convert their gold, take their money to the bank, or transfer it to an IBAN. Our citizens should be alert, cautious, and careful against such incidents. In such situations, the people on the other side want the phone not to be hung up. Our citizens should immediately hang up the phone and call 112. They should report these kinds of people to our police and gendarmerie. Our citizens should not trust those who promise them easy money, whom they do not know or are unfamiliar with. They should not believe them," he spoke.
"THERE IS ALMOST AN 8 POINT INCREASE"
Pointing out that the clarification rate of crimes committed against property has increased by 8 points compared to the first 9 months of last year, Governor Çiftçi said, "Last year, the clarification rate was 84.14%, while this year it has risen to 92.44%. There is almost an 8 point increase. Compared to last year; the clarification rate of crimes committed against property is above the national average. Erzurum's crime clarification rate, in crimes committed against property, is above the national average. As a governorship, of course, our primary duty is our responsibility arising from the Provincial Administration Law. Ensuring the safety of our citizens' lives and property is our top priority. This is our foremost duty. We fulfill this through our police and gendarmerie. Our personnel in the field, our police chief, our gendarmerie commander, and all our line officers are working hard, and we thank them," he said.
