In Sri Lanka, while power outages experienced across the country yesterday affected daily life, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody stated, "A monkey entered our grid transformer and caused a malfunction in the system."
The capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, experienced a nationwide power outage yesterday due to a malfunction at a power plant in the south, which lasted until the early hours of the morning, and the bill was handed to a monkey. Following the repair of the malfunction, electricity was gradually restored in the island nation with a population of 22 million, prioritizing health facilities and water treatment plants. Officials' statements regarding the malfunction were surprising. Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody stated to reporters, "A monkey entered our network transformer and caused a malfunction in the system."
"A MONKEY = TOTAL CHAOS"
The minister's statements also became the target of criticism on social media. A social media user named Mario Nawfal commented, "A rogue monkey triggered a malfunction at a transformer station in Colombo, disabling Sri Lanka's entire electricity grid." In another post, Nawfal expressed, "A monkey = total chaos. Is it time to rethink the infrastructure?"
