The appointment decision of Ahmet Aktürkoğlu, who was assigned as the Provincial Mufti of Bilecik, has been revoked by a new decision published in the Official Gazette. It was claimed that the revocation occurred because he did not want to leave Istanbul.
On January 30, 2026, a decision published in the Official Gazette appointed Ahmet Aktürkoğlu, the Deputy Mufti of Istanbul, as the Mufti of Bilecik. The appointment drew public attention due to his relation as the uncle of national football player Kerem Aktürkoğlu, who has played for the Turkey National Team and Fenerbahçe.
APPOINTMENT CANCELED
However, with a new decision published in the Official Gazette on March 7, 2026, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the aforementioned appointment was canceled. According to a report by Muhammed Vefa from Elips News, the reason behind the cancellation was Ahmet Aktürkoğlu's unwillingness to leave Istanbul. It was claimed that Aktürkoğlu did not want to take on the new position due to having an established life in Istanbul and the difficulty of commuting to the new job.
CLAIM OF "REQUESTING"
The report also claimed that Ahmet Aktürkoğlu requested the cancellation of the appointment by using some of his connections through his nephew Kerem Aktürkoğlu, and that this request was met.
