British Premier Sunak Vows To Remain In Parliament For Another 5 Years

19.06.2024 14:57

'I have to win first. And that’s up to my constituents in Richmond. I hope very much I have the chance to represent them for another parliament,' says Sunak.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday committed to continuing his parliamentary career for another five years, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming general election.

In a statement made during an appearance on LBC's Nick Ferrari at Breakfast, Sunak expressed his dedication to serving his Richmond constituents.

"I have to win first. And that's up to my constituents in Richmond. I hope very much I have the chance to represent them for another parliament. I love doing that job. And of course I'll do that," he said.

This declaration comes amid growing skepticism among voters about the financial viability of party manifestos.

The election campaign has been turbulent for Sunak, with recent polls indicating a significant decline in Conservative support in London.

A new survey suggests that the party's seats could plummet from 20 to just 4.

Despite this, Sunak received a glimmer of hope from the latest inflation figures, which showed a decrease to 2% in May from 2.3% in April.

Further complicating the Conservatives' position is the entrance of Nigel Farage as the leader of the Reform Party, a development feared to be siphoning votes from the Tories. -
