A couple from the USA, who had been unable to conceive for 18 years due to a diagnosis of "azoospermia," received the good news of pregnancy through a new AI-supported method. Thanks to the "STAR" method, the woman who became pregnant will give birth to her baby in December.

A couple living in the USA is ending their long years of longing for a baby with the help of artificial intelligence technology. Their dream of having a child, which did not come true despite 18 years of attempts, led them to undergo in vitro fertilization treatment multiple times during this process. However, due to the man's rare condition called "azoospermia," their hopes were dashed each time.

A MICROSCOPIC HOPE

Azoospermia is a serious type of infertility characterized by the absence of sperm cells in a male's semen sample. While millions of sperm cells are expected to be found in a normal sample, even hours of microscopic examinations in individuals with this condition may not reveal a single sperm cell.

According to a report by CNN International, the couple, who preferred to keep their names confidential, turned to the Columbia University Fertility Center as a last resort. They were introduced to a new method developed at the center called "STAR." This method aims to detect sperm that are invisible to the naked eye through AI-assisted analyses.

PREGNANT THANKS TO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The semen sample they provided to the center was scanned with an advanced AI system. Experts encountered a result that seemed impossible under normal circumstances. Three sperm cells were detected. These cells were used in the in vitro fertilization treatment.

The woman, who responded positively to the treatment, became pregnant in a short time. The expectant mother, who also holds the title of being the first woman to achieve pregnancy using the STAR method, shared her feelings with the following words: "It took me days to believe that I was really pregnant. I still question every morning when I wake up whether this is a dream."

EXPECTED TO BE BORN IN DECEMBER

The baby is expected to be born in December. Although experts state that research related to this method is still ongoing, they agree that artificial intelligence has opened a promising area for male infertility. According to CNN's assessment, methods like STAR could be the greatest support for many couples on their journey to parenthood in the future.
