German politician Jürgen Hardt suggested boycotting the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, citing Greenland as the reason.
Due to its strategic location and natural resources, Greenland, which has become the target of U.S. President Donald Trump, has received a highly talked-about move from Germany.
CALL FOR BOYCOTT FROM GERMAN POLITICIAN
German politician Jürgen Hardt, disturbed by the threatening attitudes of the U.S. towards Greenland, made striking statements. Jürgen Hardt suggested that the German National Team withdraw from the 2026 World Cup, which will also be hosted by the U.S.
'OUR GOAL IS TO ENSURE A CONSENSUS'
In his statement, Hardt said, "It is clear how important the 2026 World Cup, to be held in the U.S., is for Trump. Therefore, withdrawing from the tournament can only be considered an extreme measure to be taken if all dialogue avenues are completely blocked. Our goal is to ensure a healthier consensus regarding Greenland within the framework of NATO."
GERMAN PEOPLE SUPPORT BOYCOTT
According to a survey conducted by BILD, 47% of the German public supports this boycott if Trump targets Greenland. Additionally, some politicians in the UK indicate that a boycott decision for their national teams may come to the agenda.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026, co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The tournament carries great prestige and economic value, especially with 78 matches to be played in the U.S.
