Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti appeared in court facing charges of tax evasion from the Spanish Treasury related to his first term at Real Madrid (2013-2015).
Ancelotti arrived at the Madrid District Court accompanied by his wife Mariann Barrena and his son Davide Ancelotti, who is also an assistant coach at Real Madrid.
Before the trial, which attracted significant media attention, Carlo Ancelotti made a brief statement while entering the court, asserting that he came not to negotiate but to give his testimony, maintaining his innocence as he has done so far. Ancelotti is accused of evading a total of 1 million 62 thousand euros in taxes, with 386 thousand 361 euros in 2014 and 675 thousand 718 euros in 2015 during his first term at Real Madrid.
PROSECUTION SEEKS 4 YEARS IN PRISON
The prosecution is seeking a prison sentence of 4 years and 9 months for the Italian coach, along with the collection of his tax debt through seizure by the tax office, demanding a total payment of 3 million 186 thousand 237 euros including penalties. Carlo Ancelotti has denied the allegations against him, asserting his innocence.
In Spain, many figures from the football world, including coach Jose Mourinho and players Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Arda Turan, have faced tax evasion charges in the past, later settling with the tax authorities to close the legal process with fines.
