ISRAEL'S CABINET WILL MEET TOMORROW MORNING FOR CEASEFIREIsraeli media reported that the Israeli security cabinet will meet tomorrow to resolve disputes between Hamas and Israel in negotiations held in Doha, the capital of Qatar. According to a report by The Jerusalem Post, Arye Deri, the leader of the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish Shas Party, which is a coalition partner in the Israeli government, stated that he was informed that the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas had been resolved. The Israeli Prime Minister's Office claimed today that Hamas had withdrawn from some articles of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and accused them of changing the draft, announcing that "the Israeli cabinet will not convene until Hamas informs the mediators that it accepts all the terms of the agreement." The Israeli negotiation team had stated that they were continuing discussions in Doha, the capital of Qatar, regarding the details of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza. Israeli media reported that the Israeli delegation was negotiating other disputes, including disagreements over the names of Palestinian prisoners to be released. CEASEFIRE AND PRISONER EXCHANGE AGREEMENTQatar, one of the mediating countries, announced on January 15 that an agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas regarding a ceasefire and prisoner exchange in Gaza. The agreement will come into effect on Sunday, January 19. The ceasefire agreement, which consists of 3 phases, will see 33 Israeli prisoners released in the first 42 days. The agreement also includes comprehensive humanitarian aid reaching the Gaza Strip, as well as allowing displaced Palestinians to return to their regions. Details of the second and third phases will be announced upon the completion of the first phase.
