U.S. PROPOSAL ACCEPTED
In a statement, RSF announced that it has accepted the U.S. proposal for a humanitarian ceasefire. According to United Nations data, more than 40,000 people have lost their lives in the ongoing conflicts in Sudan since 2023. The conflicts have displaced more than 14 million people, while 375,000 are on the brink of death from starvation.
CIVIL WAR IN SUDAN
After the ousting of former President Omar al-Bashir in 2019, a council composed of civilian and military groups was established as a transitional government, and Abdullah Hamduk was appointed as prime minister in August 2019. However, Hamduk was removed from office in October 2021 by a joint coup carried out by the army and RSF forces. Following the coup, protests erupted due to severe economic conditions, leading to tensions between the army and RSF. As a result of the power struggle between the army and RSF, clashes began between the two sides on April 15, 2023.
