The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey has removed the Bulgarian Lev from the list of currencies traded as of January 2, 2026, as part of Bulgaria's transition to the euro. The decision has come into effect after being published in the Official Gazette.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) has removed the Bulgarian Lev from the list of currencies subject to trading as of January 2, 2026. This decision was published in the Official Gazette dated December 20 and has come into effect.
BULGARIA IS SWITCHING TO EURO
It has been reported that the regulation was made due to Bulgaria's transition to the euro in 2026. In this context, the Bulgarian Lev has officially been removed from the currencies traded by the CBRT.
TRADING OPERATIONS WILL END
The regulation published in the Official Gazette includes changes made to the CBRT circular regarding the Decision No. 32 on the Protection of the Value of Turkish Currency and the communiqué of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance numbered 2008-32/34.
With this decision, trading operations conducted in Bulgarian Lev at the CBRT will cease as of the beginning of 2026. Following Bulgaria's transition to the euro, these operations will be conducted in euros henceforth.
