Citizens in Diyarbakır who wanted to buy cheap rice waited in line for hours in front of the Agricultural Products Office, undeterred by the cold weather.
Many citizens who learned that 5 kilograms of rice was offered for sale at a discounted price at the Agricultural Products Office in Diyarbakır flocked to the sales office early in the morning. Citizens formed long queues and waited for a long time in line to buy cheap rice despite the freezing cold.
THEY TRIED TO WARM UP BY LIGHTING A FIRE
Many citizens from the poor and needy neighborhoods of Kaynartepe, Muradiye, Körhat, 5 Nisan, and Mevlana Halit in the central Bağlar District of the city joined the cheap rice queue. Those who were cold due to the extreme weather tried to warm up by lighting a fire while waiting in line, while some others tried to warm up a little by putting their hands in the pockets of their worn-out clothes.
THERE IS A GAP IN BETWEEN
While the bag of 5 kilograms of rice is sold for between 220-290 lira for citizens waiting in line to buy cheap food, this price can go up to 700 lira in local and chain markets in the city.
