China's Special Representative for European Affairs, Lu Shaye, stated that the US and Russia should not impose a peace that excludes Europe in Ukraine.
According to a report by the South China Morning Post, Ambassador Lu participated in an ambassadors' panel held during the plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing.
"THE US AND RUSSIA SHOULD NOT DECIDE ALONE"
Expressing that different peace proposals regarding Ukraine should be discussed equally and not dictated by a minority, Lu said, "The US and Russia should not decide on peace in Ukraine alone, especially while European countries, who feel cornered by diplomatic maneuvers, are expressing their concerns on this matter."
Lu commented on US President Donald Trump's "arrogant" and "despotic" policy towards Europe, stating, "The way he treats his allies is, frankly, a very frightening situation from a European perspective."
A REMINDER TO EUROPE FROM THE US
Noting that Europe should consider why its relations with China have deteriorated in recent years by looking at the Washington administration's approach, Lu said, "If our European friends compare the policies of the Trump administration with those of the Chinese government, they will see that China's diplomatic approach is based on peace, friendship, goodwill, and win-win cooperation."
"IS THERE ANYONE WHO STILL THINKS CHINA IS CLOSE TO RUSSIA?"
Recalling that Europeans have accused China of being close to and supporting Russia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Lu remarked, "Is there anyone who still thinks China is close to Russia? If they think so, they should also blame the US. The US is not only close to Russia but also supports it."
Countering the view that the current state of transatlantic relations provides China with an opportunity to improve its relations with Europe, Lu stated: "China's foreign relations are not focused on distancing the US's allies from it. We want to establish genuine partnerships based on shared interests. Regardless of the US's policies towards Europe, China will continue its approach and positive stance based on peace, friendship, and win-win cooperation towards European countries."
