CHP member Dinçer hung a shroud on the parliamentary podium.

The budget marathon that started in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) continues with the discussions of the 2025 budgets of the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Ministry of National Education.

WENT TO THE PODIUM WITH A SHROUD

During the budget discussions, CHP Ankara Deputy Semra Dinçer, speaking on behalf of her party, went to the podium with a shroud on which the names of women who lost their lives in violent incidents were written.

"I AM HERE TO SHOUT THE SCREAM OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN"

Placing the shroud in front of the podium, Dinçer stated: "I am here to shout the scream of women and children who have been murdered, subjected to violence, harassed, and raped. When I opened this shroud in the General Assembly on October 9, the number of women killed in 2024 was 296. 68 days have passed, 125 more women have been murdered, and unfortunately, they had to wear this shroud. Sadly, we also had to add to this shroud. Currently, the number of women killed in 2024 is 421.

"IT GOES FROM HERE TO THE MINISTERIAL CHAIR YOU ARE SITTING ON"

Dear Minister, the length of this shroud continues to grow every day. The distance to your ministry from here is approximately 4 kilometers. When we connect the shrouds of the women murdered this year end to end, it reaches the ministerial chair you are sitting on. Are you not ashamed of this picture? The responsibility for all the women murdered in these lands lies on the neck of the AKP government."

UNFORTUNATELY, YOU HAVE NO SHAME LEFT

Showing the tear gas and electroshock device in her hand to Minister Göktaş, Dinçer said, "Do you know what these are? These are tear gas and an electroshock device. The women you cannot protect carry this tear gas and electroshock device in their bags. Those who are lucky hold on to life with this tear gas and electroshock device, while those who are unlucky have to wear this shroud. Look, after the brutal murder of İkbal and Ayşenur on October 4, there was a 500% increase in the sales of tear gas and electroshock devices. The tear gas that had been in stock for months ran out within hours. I would say these should be your shame, but unfortunately, you have no shame left," she said.

"WE WILL FIGHT AGAINST THE MENTALITY THAT EYES WOMEN'S ACQUIRED RIGHTS"

Dinçer continued her speech as follows: "When I opened this shroud during the discussions of the Planning and Budget Commission, you didn't even glance at it. You ignored the murdered. The whole of Turkey saw these names. But only the AKP government did not see them. You left women and children defenseless. We will continue to fight against the political power that invites violence by isolating women from society, that dares to close the nurseries opened to serve the public, and that cannot protect women on the street, at work, or even in their own homes. We will continue our struggle against the mentality that aims at women's acquired rights by withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention and targeting Law No. 6284.

A mother's scream, a child's tears should be unbearable for us because the dreams of women and children will shape the future of this society. Every incident that darkens their lives and steals their dreams actually darkens our future as well. If they ask who is missing the most in this budget, I would say "women and children are missing." There is all kinds of abuse and violence against women and children in Turkey, but neither women's nor children's names are in this budget. Any budget that does not include women and children is like a dynamite laid for the future of the country. It is impossible for us to say yes to this budget; of course, we will say no."
