It was agreed that basketball matches of the EuroLeague and the European Cup will be played in Israel starting from December 1, despite the ceasefire violations in Gaza.
ISRAEL WILL PLAY MATCHES AT HOME
In a statement from the EuroLeague, it was said, "Member clubs of the European League Commercial Assets (ECA) have reached an agreement on the proposal to set December 1, 2025, as the date for the resumption of matches in Israel after long negotiations."
The statement noted, "ECA member clubs came together to discuss the current situation in Israel and Gaza following the recently announced ceasefire and peace initiatives. The possibility of resuming the EuroLeague and BKT European Cup matches, which have been moved to neutral venues since October 2023, being played again in Israel was also addressed during the meeting."
In the statement reporting that ECA member clubs agreed on the proposal to set December 1 as the date for the resumption of matches in Israel, it was stated, "Until then, the EuroLeague will continue to closely monitor developments, maintain close contact with local and foreign authorities, visiting teams, and all relevant organizations, and ensure that the safety and well-being of everyone involved remains the top priority."
The statement also said, "The EuroLeague and participating clubs welcome the recently announced peace plan with optimism and hope. The EuroLeague reaffirms its belief in the power of basketball to bring people and communities together and its commitment to contributing to peace through shared values such as sports, respect, and unity."
THEY WILL NOT COME TO TURKEY
Despite the peace plan, the teams of Israel, which have repeatedly violated the ceasefire in Gaza, will not come to Turkey for matches against Fenerbahçe Beko and Anadolu Efes. It has been learned that the matches in question will continue to be played in certain regions of Europe. Our representatives will face Israeli teams in their own countries according to this decision. This situation has been met with criticism from sports enthusiasts.
