CHP objected, that party's emblem was removed

30.06.2026 08:41

The Constitutional Court (AYM), upon the application of the Republican People's Party (CHP), decided to remove the emblem used by the Republican Nation's Party (CMP), established last year, from the registry of political parties. The High Court ruled that the CMP's emblem closely resembled the CHP's symbol, the "Six Arrows," to the extent that it could cause confusion.

The Constitutional Court has put an end to the ongoing emblem similarity debate on the political stage. The Republican People's Party (CHP) had filed an objection with the High Court, claiming that a similar version of its historic six-arrow emblem was being used by the Republican Nation Party (CMP).

CHP COMPLAINED, HIGH COURT RULED IN ITS FAVOR

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette today, the Constitutional Court thoroughly examined the main opposition party's request for "decision to delete from the register of political parties" and found it justified. The ruling also included the rapporteur's opinion, which noted that the logo chosen by the CMP closely resembled the emblem of the CHP.

"SIMILAR IN A WAY CAUSING CONFUSION"

The High Court ruled that the emblem used by the CMP was clearly in violation of the Political Parties Law (Law No. 2820). The reasoning for the majority decision included the following statements:

"Due to the emblem being similar to that of the CHP in a way that causes confusion, it was decided to be invalid and deleted from the register of political parties, in accordance with Article 104, paragraph three of Law No. 2820."

NAME REQUEST REJECTED, EMBLEM CANCELLED

Meanwhile, the CHP's application had requested not only the cancellation of the emblem but also the invalidation of the name "Republican Nation Party." However, the Constitutional Court rejected this objection regarding the party's name and limited the sanction solely to the cancellation of the emblem.

CMP'S NOTEWORTHY FOUNDATION PROCESS

The founding story of the Republican Nation Party (CMP), whose emblem has been cancelled, has a remarkable background known in political circles. CMP Chairman Reşat Şahin Öztürk previously served as the Istanbul Provincial Head of the Memleket Party, which decided to shut down after Muharrem İnce joined the CHP.

Following this process, Öztürk announced on August 24, 2025, that he would establish a new party, and on September 9, 2025, he submitted the official application for the founding of the CMP to the Ministry of Interior. After this final decision by the Constitutional Court, it remains a matter of curiosity what path the CMP administration will follow in determining a new emblem.
