New details continue to emerge from the fire disaster at Kartalkaya Ski Resort in Bolu, where 10 people lost their lives and 32 others were injured. A citizen who survived the fire with his two children and wife drew attention to the chain of negligence, saying, "There was no fire escape, no smoke detector, and no fire extinguisher in the hotel; we barely escaped with our lives."
The citizen, who was staying at the hotel with his family during the fire, spoke to Ekol TV.
Stating that there was no fire escape, smoke detector, or fire extinguisher in the hotel, the citizen tearfully recounted those moments, saying, "We barely escaped with our lives":
"At around 03:00, we woke up to the smoke and noise with my two children and my wife. Supposedly, there was a smoke detector, but nothing went off. We were on the 7th floor. The upper floors of the hotel were full. There were people up to the 10th floor. Nothing sounded any warnings or alarms. The smoke was so thick that you couldn't see anything. Our situation is okay, but my children's friends and their spouses were in the next room. We knocked on their door, but I don't know; we barely saved ourselves. Their father is now checking the hospitals. The hotel was crowded. They say it was 80% full. One of the waiters said the fire started from the restaurant. They had installed a new electrical system during the summer. Those who woke up did so, but when we stepped into the corridor, the smoke had engulfed everything. By the time we got out, the fire had been going for an hour."
