In the Bornova district of İzmir, ground and aerial interventions are being made to combat the forest fire, while flames have reignited in the fire in Harmancık, Bursa. Entry and exit to Çakmak Village, which is threatened by the flames, has been prohibited. Images from the region have revealed the difficulties faced by teams in their firefighting efforts.
After record temperatures during the summer season, forest fires have increased across Turkey. While the fight against the fires continues on all fronts, the situation has become critical in İzmir and Bursa.
THE FIRE IN BORNOVA HAS REACHED THE BOUNDARIES OF BUCA A fire broke out in the forested area of Gökdere neighborhood in Bornova district of İzmir for an undetermined reason. Upon notification, 4 planes, 7 helicopters, 25 water trucks, 7 water supply vehicles, and 4 bulldozers from the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the area. The flames spread to the borders of Buca district due to the wind's effect.
Some neighborhood residents are supporting the efforts by transporting water with their tractors. The riot control vehicles (TOMA) affiliated with the Provincial Police Department are also working to extinguish the flames. Police and gendarmerie teams have taken security measures in the area. The Gökdere exit of the İzmir-Aydın Highway has been temporarily closed to traffic. Traffic is being redirected towards Buca and Torbalı. Efforts to bring the fire under control are ongoing.
FLAMES HAVE REKINDLED IN HARMANCIK, BURSA The forest fire in the Meyran Rampası area of Harmancık district in Bursa has started to become effective again. Numerous ground and air teams are intervening in the flames rising in the forested area. The fire, which has grown rapidly due to the wind, is being brought under control before it threatens nearby residential areas. It has been reported that aerial firefighting helicopters and planes have also been directed to the area regarding the fire. Access to Çakmak Village, where the flames are approaching, has been prohibited.
THE FIGHT AGAINST FLAMES CONTINUES IN BURSA The forest fire that broke out on July 26 at around 16:00 in the Meyran area of Harmancık district has spread over a wide area due to the wind. On the same day, at around 17:30, another forest fire that broke out near Ağlaşan neighborhood in Kestel district also reached Gürsu district. The forest fires, which have been ongoing for three days, are being intervened by 6 planes, 4 helicopters, 855 ground vehicles, and 2,300 personnel.
A total of 3,515 people have been evacuated from the neighborhoods of Karahıdır, İğdir, Ağlaşan, Avdancık in Gürsu, and Çakmak, Çatalsöğüt, Çamoğlu, Ilıcaksu, Dutluca, Yakuplar, and Gedikler in Harmancık. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, AK Party Deputy Chairman and Bursa Deputy Efkan Ala, AK Party Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank, and Bursa Governor Erol Ayyıldız monitored the efforts at the crisis center established last night, while the teams continued their ground interventions throughout the night.
1 SUSPECT IN CUSTODY While the investigation into the fires continues, Ufuk A. (30), who was seen in the forest by citizens and had a gasoline canister in the back of his vehicle, was detained yesterday in Harmancık district. It was learned that he was a former soldier who had been expelled as part of a FETÖ investigation. Ufuk A. was almost lynched by citizens. The suspect's interrogation is ongoing at the Bursa Provincial Police Department's Anti-Terror Branch.
FUNERALS WILL BE HELD On the other hand, a funeral prayer will be held for the driver Kazım Bayrak, Ahmet Demirel, and Mehmet Şimşek, who lost their lives in the accident that occurred when a water tanker belonging to a private company, with license plate 06 BNL 163, rolled down approximately 100 meters on the road from Narlıdere to Ağlaşan neighborhood in Kestel district while going to support the firefighting efforts. The funerals of Kazım Bayrak and Mehmet Şimşek will be held in Gürsu district of Bursa, while Kazım Bayrak's funeral will be buried in his hometown Bolu. Additionally, İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan, and Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu will conduct inspections in Gürsu and Kestel districts.
