In the Narin Güran murder case in Diyarbakır, a criminal complaint was filed against Murat Bahtiyar, brother of Nevzat Bahtiyar who was sentenced to 17 years in prison, for alleged threats and insults directed at Salim Güran's lawyer Onur Akdağ on social media.
PROCESS IN THE NARİN GÜRAN MURDER CASE
Narin Güran, who went missing in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood of Bağlar district on August 21, 2024, was found dead on September 8, the 19th day of search efforts, in a sack in a creek bed, covered with three stones weighing 30, 25, and 20 kilograms and hidden under bushes. In the investigation into Narin's death, a case was filed at the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court against her uncle Salim Güran, mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and their neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar, who was identified from security camera footage as having transported Narin's dead body to the creek area in a red vehicle.
AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT AND 17-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE
For uncle Salim Güran, mother Yüksel Güran, and brother Enes Güran, whose vehicle contained DNA and hair samples belonging to Narin, an aggravated life imprisonment sentence was sought along with neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar for the crime of 'Intentional killing of a child in complicity.' In his statement after being taken into custody, Nevzat Bahtiyar claimed he did not kill Narin but only transported and concealed her dead body in the creek. In the second hearing of the case on December 28, 2024, the court sentenced Salim, Yüksel, and Enes Güran to aggravated life imprisonment for 'Intentional killing of a child in complicity.' The 4.5-year prison sentence given to Nevzat Bahtiyar for 'Destroying, concealing, or altering crime evidence' was overturned by the Court of Cassation. In a retrial at the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court on April 16, Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 17 years in prison for 'Aiding intentional killing of a child with qualified intent' without any discretionary reduction.
SON ARRESTED FOR POSSESSING UNLICENSED WEAPONS
During a break in the sentencing hearing, the families of the parties left the courthouse. At that time, a vehicle carrying Nevzat Bahtiyar's son İbrahim Bahtiyar and two relatives was stopped by police teams due to suspicious behavior. A search of the vehicle uncovered two unlicensed pistols. The three suspects, taken into custody, were referred to the courthouse after police procedures. İbrahim Bahtiyar was arrested by the court on charges of 'Possession of unlicensed weapons,' while the other suspects were released.
ALLEGATIONS OF THREATS AND INSULTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
A criminal complaint was filed against Murat Bahtiyar, brother of Nevzat Bahtiyar, for allegedly threatening and insulting Onur Akdağ, the lawyer of Narin Güran's uncle Salim Güran (who is also a defendant in the case), on social media. In the complaint petition submitted by the family's other lawyer, Yılmaz Demiroğlu, it was stated: 'My client Onur Akdağ, as a defense attorney in the high-profile Narin Güran case, performs a public duty. He occasionally makes posts on his own page on X social media to inform the public. Before the hearing on April 16, 2026, held at the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court, Murat Bahtiyar, the brother of Nevzat Bahtiyar—one of the defendants in Narin Güran's murder—made threatening remarks targeting my client in a chat room on X. On the day of the court hearing, due to suspicious behavior by the Bahtiyar family in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse, a search of their vehicle uncovered two unlicensed weapons, and Nevzat Bahtiyar's son was arrested as part of the investigation. After the hearing on April 16, suspect Murat Bahtiyar, in a chat room he joined on the social media platform X, directed severe insults and threats at my client, who is a public official. He continued these actions in a subsequent chat on April 29.'
REQUEST FOR INVESTIGATION AND LAWSUIT
It was requested that an investigation be launched against the suspect for 'Publicly insulting a public official due to their duty' and 'Threat,' that his statement be taken, and that an indictment be prepared and a public lawsuit filed to penalize him for each act.
