Heavy rainfall lasting for two days in Rize caused flooding, and a critical warning followed the disaster. Mehmet Akif Balta, the General Director of the State Hydraulic Works (DSI), who inspected the ongoing efforts on-site, stated, "The flow in the riverbeds has not yet stopped. Although the water level has decreased, the amount of water currently flowing in the riverbeds is still at a dangerous level. Our citizens, please do not approach the riverbeds."

After the 'yellow' coded warning from the General Directorate of Meteorology for the provinces of Rize, Artvin, Giresun, and Trabzon in the Eastern Black Sea region, heavy rainfall was effective the day before yesterday. In Rize, more than 350 kilograms of rain fell per square meter during the two-day downpour.

HEAVY RAIN IN RIZE CAUSED FLOODING

Due to the downpour, as the water levels and flow rates of some rivers in Rize rose, floods and landslides occurred. Some empty bungalows by the riverbank were swept away by the flood. The bridge in the Şenyamaç village area on the Ardeşen-Çamlıhemşin highway collapsed due to the rising water level, halting transportation to the famous tourist center Ayder Plateau.
